The Central Committee
Kachin National Organization
Monday February 5th, 2007 marks the 46th anniversary of the Kachin Independence Revolution against ethnocentric Burmese military regime. After more than four score years, we remain to be enslaved under the maniacal of militarism and our basic human rights to live and freedoms to survive are increasingly endangered evermore than the past. KNO has witnessed the build up of troops to an unprecedented level during the cease-fire era, and such action will force us to set another revolt against the Burmanization.
The Russian Federation and People's Republic of China's exercise of double veto in the United Nations Security Council's (UNSC) draft resolution on Burma only produced greater hardship and more innocent death. The decision taken by Russia and China solely served as the interests of the two great nations and is certainly against the will of the Burmese people across the globe. We urge that these powerful countries to stop providing economic and military incentives to the military junta.
The fact that the People's Republic of China and the Russian Federation had to exercise the historical double veto in the UNSC by itself served as a testament to the world that Burma's issue is no longer an internal problem, as a few testified. If Burma's problem is indeed a domestic issue, the discussion would not have been taken up to the council in the first place. Hence, China and Russia could have resolved any differences among Burmese ethnics and political groups by sending a mediator. Therefore, Burma does not only pose as a threat to its own 50 million citizens, but its problems have spilled over to its neighbors and should now be considered a potential global treat.
The anti UNSC draft resolution statements posted on the front pages of state media in Burma by the Kachin ceasefire groups are not the voices of the Kachin people. We therefore would like to stress that the Kachin people are willing to see UNSC draft resolution on Burma. Furthermore, a resolution should be passed to take necessary actions by international world body to illegitimize the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC).
Past and present political experiences we have encountered with Burmese military regime have proven to all of us that the SPDC is a threat and has no will to embrace diversity in Union of Burma. Therefore, the KNO would like to urge the international community especially Russian Federation and People's Republic of China's to end supporting the junta. Today, the Kachin National Organization, once again, proclaims our declaration with the Kachin people and other ethnic groups that we will fight against tyranny until we achieve our inalienable rights and freedom for all the Kachins and the Union of Burma.
