A group in facebook.com has been creating great discussions and posting recent information on happenings in Burma. I was able to get a message from the British Ambassador, Mark Canning Sat, 29th about 11am, in which he said that Rangoon was calm, lots of troops around and more arrests at the monasteries overnight. He also sounded hopeful that "there are some encouraging signs too that possibly, possibly, some progress might be possible." I am sure he cannot say more than that at this point, but it gives hope. We were also able to get through to Rangoon last night via the phone.
An interesting thread forming in the facebook.com 'Support the Monk's Protest in Burma' discussion group is the idea of a "tourist army" going to Rangoon, people have been requesting that Jim Carrey, who has put out a couple statements on youtube, sponsor a group of International concerned citizens to go to Rangoon to physically show their solidarity for the monks and people of Burma.
Another good idea that has come out of the discussions is to send a message to the Chinese Olympic Committee. You can do this by copying and pasting the following message and sending it to:
ticketing(at)beijing2008(dot)cn
Subject: tickets for the Olympics
Dear Sirs,
I am very interested in purchasing tickets to some of the events at next
year's Olympic games.
However I cannot, in good conscience, attend the Beijing Olympics unless
your government uses its influence to improve the political situation in
Burma. China has substantial economic interests in the country, provides
large amounts of economic aid, and invests heavily in infrastructure
projects there. Additionally, your government provides extensive
logistical support to Burma’s military government. All this make China
uniquely placed to influence it.
The people of Burma have, in a very peaceful manner, insisted that their
rights be respected. I ask no more of your government than that it cease
its support for the current regime, and encourage a dialogue with the
democratically elected representatives of the Burmese nation.
I, the Burmese people, and the world would be grateful for your assistance
in this matter. Your courage will go a long way towards making the 2008
Olympics a success.
With sincere thanks,

International Bloggers' Day for Burma on the 4th of October International bloggers are preparing an action to support the peaceful revolution in Burma. We want to set a sign for freedom and show our sympathy for these people who are fighting their cruel regime without weapons. These Bloggers are planning to refrain from posting to their blogs on October 4 and just put up one Banner then, underlined with the words „Free Burma!“. www.free-burma.org Re: Re: Support the Burmese People
